This site offers a fairly comprehensive list of web links for parents of gifted children. The list is annotated, making it is easy for parents to find answers about issues affecting their children.

This website contains information for high school and college students, and their parents (It also has an educator section.). Users should create a free account for the most benefits. Information here covers AP classes and exams, SAT prep and exam, college planning and preparation (including advice to pay for college), and career planning. This comprehensive site will answer most questions about higher education preparation and planning.

This site offers support and information for parents of profoundly gifted students. It contains information about the Davidson Academy (and summer programs), a searchable database, and a variety of other information.

 

Gifted Children’s Bill of Rights:  https://tip.duke.edu/node/870

This is a list of 10 “rights” every gifted child is entitled to as part of his/her educational experience. This information is important for advocacy of student rights in the classroom.

 

Gifted Education Press Quarterly:  http://www.giftededpress.com/

This free, quarterly publication contains academic articles on various issues relating to gifted children. Although not all of these scholarly articles may be of interest to parents, each issue generally contains one or more articles that detail current research and findings on gifted issues. For example, the Spring 2014 issue contains an article titled Making Games: STEM Learning in Action in the Gifted Classroom. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is a hot topic in education, and many parents, particularly those of gifted learners, want to know more about it.

This website touts itself as the “all things gifted page.” It has sections for parents, gifted kids and teens, and educators. The parent site includes information about testing, education/programs, meeting social and emotional needs, FAQs, and much more. This resource is a good “first line of attack” when addressing issues and concerns of parenting gifted children.

Illinois Association of Gifted Children (IAGC):  http://www.iagcgifted.org/

Although this site is aimed at educators, parents will find valuable information here about many areas related to parenting gifted children including: advocacy, law and policy, identifying underserved and underrepresented gifted populations, and meeting social and emotional needs of gifted children and teens.

 

National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC):  http://www.nagc.org/

This site contains a trove of information about parenting a gifted child. Included here are definitions, FAQs, myths about giftedness, and a glossary of terms. Additional resources include a bookstore, lists of toys appropriate for gifted children, and information about National Parenting Gifted Children Week (third week of July each year – see below). Especially valuable for parents is the Working with Your Child’s School section which lists ways to advocate for one’s child.

This comprehensive website offers a variety of resources for parenting gifted children, including webinars (SENGinars); articles, essays, books, and e-books; and information about online support groups and the SENG annual conference.
